We are looking for a

High Voltage and Substation Technician / Instructor
with long term field experience

During the training of future Electrical Engineers at the University of Zambia (UNZA) a HV technician will be required as a senior instructor for the operation of a substation automation system (SAS) for training purpose.

The subjects to be trained in a 3-months introduction course are as follows:

  • High voltage substations and equipment i.e. ABB, Siemens
  • Introduction to SCADA systems
  • High voltage / medium voltage
  • Switching operations
  • Power distribution / power transformation
  • General safety and industrial standards
  • Grid / micro grid structures
  • Power factor and correction
  • Earthing / earth fault compensation
  • Electro technical components:
    - Break Switch, load break switch, power switch, power circuit breaker
    - Load switching
    - Cables
    - Disconnectors / separators
    - Termination protection units
    - Transformers
    - Switchgears also gas insulated

Professional expertise:

  • Technician / master
  • Professional experience in
    - Working with energy providers and power supplies
    - Switchgear construction
    - Operation of substations
    - Training and Instruction
  • Authorisation for switching substations
  • Fluent command of English language (written and spoken)
  • PC and IT network administrator knowledge
  • Trainer qualification as senior instructor

For the substation on site there is an introduction course foreseen of approximately 1 week duration conducted by the manufacturer.
